Frequently Asked Questions
Can a female hormone test tell me if I’m menopausal?
Our female hormone test cannot diagnose menopause definitively, but depending on where you are in the transition, your luteinising hormone and follicle stimulating hormone levels may indicate whether menopause is likely.
For women aged between 45 and 55, menopause is typically diagnosed based on symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, and mood changes.
However, a blood test can be helpful in supporting the diagnosis when there is uncertainty — especially if symptoms appear earlier than expected. For example, if you are under 45 and suspect you may be entering early menopause, this test can provide valuable insight.
What is menopause?
Menopause is a natural part of aging and is usually diagnosed when you haven’t had a period for over a year. It happens as your levels of oestrogen and progesterone gradually decline, and it marks the end of your ability to conceive naturally.
Most women experience menopause between the ages of 45 and 55, often preceded by a transition phase known as perimenopause. For some, periods may stop earlier than expected—before the age of 45, which is known as early or premature menopause.
What are menopause symptoms?
Common symptoms of menopause include hot flushes, night sweats, trouble sleeping, a lower sex drive, and mood changes such as anxiety or low mood.
When should I take a menopause test?
If you're between the ages of 45 and 55, menopause is typically diagnosed based on symptoms alone. However, a blood test can be helpful when there's uncertainty or if symptoms appear earlier than expected. For instance, if you're under 45 and suspect you may be experiencing early menopause, this test can provide valuable insight.
How do I know if my symptoms are caused by menopause or a thyroid issue?
Thyroid conditions and menopause can share many similar symptoms, which can make it hard to tell them apart. The most reliable way to find out what’s causing your symptoms is through a blood test. That’s why our Menopause Profile Blood Test checks both reproductive and thyroid hormones, to help identify whether your symptoms are linked to menopause or possibly a thyroid issue.
